Future Materials Bank

  • national institutions

The Future Materials Bank is a materials archive that supports and promotes the transition to ecologically conscious art and design practices.

The archive is part of Future Materials, a hybrid platform of the Jan van Eyck Academy. By collecting information and samples from makers around the world, the archive aims to inspire and spread knowledge about sustainable materials. The Bank's collection is constantly growing, offering insight into the ways in which the concept of sustainability is evolving in the fields of art and design. Currently, the online archive houses twenty-three sustainable, future-proof artist materials.

New contributions and suggestions are always welcome. By submitting materials, you can become part of the Future Materials Bank community. As the Future Materials Bank celebrates its two-year anniversary, this milestone has been celebrated with an expansion of the Future Materials website, to which a Makers page has been added, and recordings of Future Materials Encounters, a series of workshops and talks where the maker introduces a material from the Bank.
