More cultural cooperation with Ukraine

The Cabinet is making Ukraine a so-called focus country in the field of international cultural policy. State Secretary Uslu (Culture and Media) announced this during a consultation with European culture ministers in Brussels. This status will provide more opportunities for cultural cooperation, investment and exchange.

State Secretary Uslu: "Especially now, it is important to cooperate in the cultural field as well. Everything of value is defenseless - especially in times of war. By making Ukraine a focus country in our international culture policy, we can help the cultural sector there. Not only financially through funds, but also with practical support and the exchange of people and knowledge. In this way, the Netherlands supports Ukraine in resisting Russian war crimes such as the destruction of cultural heritage and cultural infrastructure."

The Russian regime's war against Ukraine is leaving deep scars on all fronts. Also in the field of heritage, art and culture. To facilitate cultural cooperation with Ukraine, the Cabinet is adding it to the list of focus countries for international cultural policy. Through the Dutch embassy and Dutch cultural institutions, joint projects can receive support. There are also opportunities for exchanges of creators and other professionals in the cultural and creative sector. The Netherlands has also already begun providing emergency assistance to damaged museums and collections.
