What can we learn from the governmental approach around art venues (visual arts institutions without a collection) of the four countries that surround the Netherlands? In Art venues: An international perspective, researchers Jorgen Karskens and Yannick Bouillis describe the results of the search they conducted in 2021 on behalf of the Mondriaan Fund.

How is the structural funding of visual arts handled abroad, with issues such as regional distribution or audience reach? Karskens and Bouillis knocked on the doors of institutions in France (FRAC, Palais de Tokyo) Belgium (Wiels), Germany (including Kunstverein) and the United Kingdom (including Eastside Projects), to find answers to these and other questions. The description of the eight international art venues will be taken up in the research as inspiration for a discussion on how to strengthen the field of Dutch art venues.
