The proven effect of art on overall health is still underutilized in the Netherlands, according to the whitepaper Physician in Health.

More than two hundred researchers, administrators, policymakers, health care workers, artists, educators, experts by experience and other stakeholders make the call to give arts and culture a more prominent place in health care.

Whitepaper Arts in Health in the Netherlands

In mid-February of this year, the white paper Physician in Health presented which explores the current state of the application of art and culture in Dutch health care. It contains concrete initiatives that demonstrate the value of art and culture in meeting current and future challenges in health care. For example, research shows that singing in a choir or visiting a museum is not only enjoyable and inspiring, but also has demonstrable health benefits.

Despite these scientific findings, arts and culture are still little used in health care. Arts in Health Netherlands therefore advocates the integration of art and creativity in healthcare institutions and communities. To make this happen, the initiative has now been taken to create a national Arts in Health agenda.
