Certainty

We live in uncertain times, or at least that is how they are often perceived. Yet we live in a time and place where there are many certainties, more than ever before. Health care, old-age pension, disability: for many it is reasonably well organized. People like security, it gives them peace of mind and room for other things that are important. But that security is not available to everyone and not to everyone to the same extent. For example, many artists live with income insecurity, which means that they do not always have a lot to spend and have to make sharp choices in their spending.

One of the things that is quickly cut back on is security. In the areas of retirement, disability, or business risks. The result is that there are quite a few artists who have not properly arranged their insurance.

A visual artist is perhaps by definition someone who dares to choose an uncertain existence, an existence that involves more risks than it already normally does. Risks that can be partially covered by insurance. But one of the risks that - among others - visual artists have to deal with is the uncertainty of an income. An income that in many cases is needed to cover risks through insurance. A circle that is sometimes difficult to get out of.

This is what the board and editors of BK Information for some time. The goal of BK Information is to support visual artists in their professional practice. We do this by making information about professional practice accessible. In addition, we are currently developing a high-quality and financially attractive artists' insurance. We do this as a non-profit service, in cooperation with insurers to ensure everything is properly regulated. The possibilities are still being worked out at the moment, but we hope to be able to offer them to our subscribers in the first quarter of the new year.

For the choice of being an artist is not yet a direct choice for an uncertain existence. The artist chooses to become an artist and accepts the uncertainty because there is often no other option. With the insurances we try to offer our subscribers a little more security in an uncertain (artist) existence. We will certainly come back to this soon!
