Party

The new year has begun. A new year is always special, but for BKinformation the coming year is extra special. After all, 2018 marks the start of our 40th year. The very first issue saw the light of day in 1979. The 'bulletin for visual artists', as it was called at the time, was still being delivered free of charge to visual artists whose addresses were known to the Government Buildings Agency. At the time, this service was making BK-informatie together with the municipalities of Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague.

Later, the magazine would pass to the independent Foundation BK Information, based in Rotterdam, but with a national focus. To help cover costs, a minimum price was charged for a subscription. The same foundation still makes BK Information - by now 'trade magazine for visual artists'.

An important starting point from the beginning was that the objective information provided by the magazine had to be accessible to every visual artist in the Netherlands. In addition, the information had to be useful:

The contents of this bulletin will consist of information relevant to the professional practice of the visual artist. In addition to coverage of current issues, information will be provided that will remain valid over the longer term.

Thus the text on the cover of the first issue from November 1979.

These words are still valid today. Just as then, we make BK Information To inform objectively, without profit motive. At the lowest possible rate and with the aim of conveying information that professional working visual artists can benefit from in the practice of their profession.

In order to stay in tune with the needs of our readers, we conducted an audience survey this fall. You completed it in large numbers - thank you for that. We look forward to the results and will of course keep you informed. A good start to an anniversary year; because that's what next year will be.
We plan to pay a lot of attention to this. How and when, of course, we will let you know in detail in due course. In any case, you will be
actively involved.

Until then, we welcome you to the BK lecture at Art Rotterdam (the fourth already), which this year will be held by Mieke Conijn, director of KunstenLab in Deventer and initiator of the IJssel Biennial.
Very much looking forward to seeing you then!

For now, we wish you happy holidays and best wishes for the new year. We hope to see you for many years as a subscriber of BK Information welcome.
