Effects of additional support for makers

For makers in the cultural and creative sector there is extra support available from the state due to the lockdown. The second closure of cultural institutions in December 2020 has hit hard: investments that were made could hardly be earned back and artists are receiving fewer and fewer commissions.

Because the existing support packages no longer offered sufficient support to makers, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science reserved an additional 15 million euros for the sector. Due to the extended lockdown, an additional 9 million euros was added in January to support makers directly.

For the national cultural funds, including the Mondriaan Fund, the Ministry proposes € 5.5 million euros. The funds will use the extra budget to increase a number of existing schemes for makers. 10 million will be made available for the Rights Sector Support Fund, a fund that will provide financial support to creators from across the sector to help them continue their creative process during the coronation crisis. The resources will go directly to the makers. In total € 5 million for the Abraham Tuschinski Fund to support Dutch film productions. Normally this fund is filled by the Dutch cinemas who pay a contribution per ticket sold.

In order to support museums, OCW provides € 3.5 million euros to the Mondriaan Fund to increase the scheme for Art Heritage Presentation. Museums can use this scheme to obtain a contribution for new exhibitions.

Extra support from the Mondriaan Fund

The Mondriaan Fund provides additional support in times of corona to artists, intermediaries, museums and art institutions. In 2021 the corona bridging will be continued, as will the Experimental Regulations on Artists' Fees. Both schemes can be applied for via the fund's website. Extra support from the Stimulation Fund

As part of the second package of support for the cultural and creative sector, a one-off amount of more than €1.5 million has been allocated to the sector. € 10 million extra to the Creative Industry Incentive Fund. This will make it possible to support around 150 additional talents and several hundred commissions in 2021. An additional contribution will be made to institutions supported by the fund for several years and an extra budget will be added to a number of subsidy schemes for makers.
