No Linear Fucking Time
The exhibition No Linear Fucking Time, at BAK Utrecht, aims to highlight how the abstract, progressive conception of time has played a fundamental role in processes of colonization, exploitation and cultural flattening, as well as the removal of equality and self-determination for a wide range of cultures and beings. When time is seen not as an imposed abstraction but as the unfolding of relationships, sensitivity to other possibilities can be sharpened.
The title refers to a graffiti expression found in Oakland, USA, at the time of the Black Lives Matter protests in 2020. The graffiti with the text No Cops No Jails No Linear Fucking Time, was first shared by Esmat Elhalaby on Twitter, quickly went viral and was then widely distributed through other online media. Until April 30.
