Façade 2022
Reconsidering our freedom. Façade 2022 examines the freedoms of our society, asking the question to what extent images or outward displays - façades - mask unfreedom. The exhibition tempts one to take note of and reconsider different viewpoints on fear and freedom; what are our ideas about freedom, when does a freedom for one person mean the unfreedom of another, when is a group's freedom a facade behind which injustice or fear of others is hidden? Fourteen high-profile artists from the Netherlands, France, Austria and the United Kingdom have been commissioned for Façade 2022 to produce work on the theme of freedom from fear. They use the monumental city of Middelburg not just as a backdrop but always as an integral part of the installations; its architecture, history and population are central to their exploration of freedom. Visitors are invited, or perhaps even forced, to reconsider their freedom.
Until November 6 in downtown Middelburg, starting at CBK Zeeland.
