Thuis is meer dan een huis. Het is de geur van zeep, de smaak van je lievelingsgerecht, het geluid van een tikkende klok aan de muur. Een gevoel van veiligheid, van geluk, of juist van pijn of melancholie. Want wat betekent ‘thuis’ als je gedwongen ontheemd bent? Als het geen fysieke plek is, of de spullen om je heen, waarin zit dán het thuisgevoel? En hoe houd je dat gevoel vast als je geen huis meer hebt?

In de tentoonstelling Imagine Home laten dertien toonaangevende kunstenaars uit Afghanistan, Libanon, Oekraïne, Palestina, Syrië, Tunesië, Zuid-Afrika, Zwitserland en Nederland zien hoe zij ontheemd zijn ervaren. De tentoonstelling bestaat uit een zorgvuldige selectie van bestaande en nieuw geproduceerde kunstwerken, waaronder foto’s (Eliza Bordeaux), video’s (Manon de Boer), schilderijen (Raafat Ballan) en tekeningen (Foundland Collective) tot sculpturen (Lucas Lenglet) en installaties (Zhanna Kadyrova). Een schommel om het verschuivende gevoel van ‘thuis’ vast te leggen (Ines Kooli), een met kruidnagelpoeder gecoate steunbalk die dienstdoet als tissuedoos (Jerrold Saija), een wandafdruk van een voorouderlijk huis (Heidi Bucher), de provisiekast van ontheemden (Mirna Bamieh): kunstwerken die je zintuigen laten werken, geuren en beelden die een gevoel van thuis oproepen, installaties die onder je huid kruipen.
