"I saw that people were responding physically to my work; I wanted to explore that further."
This week Esther Didden is at Amsterdam University Medical Center, in Nieke Koek's Meemaakatelier. All her life, she has had a fascination with both the ability and inability of the human body. In 2013, to deepen her artistic practice, she chose to pursue a master's degree in Scenography at the Frank Mohr Institute in Groningen. That was not a good choice; she was unhappy there. It became a tipping point. Another master's followed and she got an exhibition at museum De Fundatie in Zwolle. Healthcare and art were increasingly coinciding. To really sharpen her interest and questions about health care, she approached the Amsterdam UMC with a request for collaboration. The hospital responded positively. Nieke Koek now works here three days a week as an artist.
"In my work, I try to find a voice for that which is unsaid," he said.
