Wi Sranan. Surinamese art in motion

November 25, 2025 marked the 50th anniversary of Suriname's independence. Museum Cobra in Amstelveen marked this historic moment with the large-scale exhibition: Wi Sranan. Surinamese art in motion. Twenty-four artists and one artist collective portray the struggle, transformation and future of freedom through existing and new works. Fashion, photography, painting, installations, film and performances show how stories of the past live on in today's imagination - and how artists redefine the meaning of freedom again and again, looking to the future. The exhibition is curated by guest curator Noukhey Forster. On view is work by Totomboti, Neil Fortune, Tessa Leuwsha,
Guillaume Lo A-Njoe, Sheila Janet Pinas, jahi quasim reeberg, Marga Weimans, Angel-Rose Oedit Doebé, Meredith Joeroeja, Soeki Irodikromo, Dhiradj Ramsamoedj, Isan Corinde, Kenneth Flders, Kurt Nahar, Maikel Deekman, Patricia Cherrywood, Reilly do Rosario, Rinaldo Klas, Remy Jungerman, Sara Blokland, Sarojini Lewis, Sri Irodikromo, Xavier Robles de Medina, Marcel Pinas and Iris Kensmil - (photos LNDWstudio).

The exhibition is on view through March 1, 2026
