Since 2020, a meandering line of new temporary works has been forming in Amsterdam's public space, on facades and rooftops. The image contribution is dedicated to the recent four editions that form a meandering line through Amsterdam. The images were commissioned available by the respective organization, with work by Lucas Lenglet, Smári Róbertsson, Tim Breukers, Bastienne Kramer, Esther Tielemans, Lily van der Stokker, Radna Rumping, Kévin Bray, Simon Wald-Lasowski, Minne Kersten, Sarah van Sonsbeeck, Jacob Dwyer, Kristina Benjocki and Stijn Verhoeff, among others.
Working with the site, the artist's home, and the related interaction between the private room and the public space, publicity and privacy. Issues whose relevance has only increased. Notions of hospitality, being a stranger and belonging to a place, moreover, have taken on new social and political meaning. Walks and meet-ups involve the public more intensely, often in conversation with the artist himself. Welcome Stranger develops works of art in everyday life, which are also experimental for the artists involved.
