Charcoal - the material - the imagination
During this collaborative project, charcoal is the source of research, questions and experimentation. Because even in contemporary artistic practice, this ancient drawing material still plays an important role.
How do contemporary artists use and create this material and what can we learn from each other? How can we also share the knowledge gained with other colleagues, who are not participating in the project?
Normally, artists work in the privacy of their own studio. For this project, nine artists from the Netherlands, Germany and France open themselves up during a ten-day working period and share their studio secrets and personal working process with each other. The results will be shown in two exhibitions and a publication.
Participating artists: Agatha van Amée (Wageningen), Jitske Bakker (Amersfoort), Daniela Baumann (Düsseldorf), Emmy Bergsma (Zwolle), Susanne von Buelow (Münster), Fabrice Cazenave (Paris), Gerben Dirven (Zwolle), Benjamin Nachtwey (Düsseldorf), Lisanne Sloots (Amsterdam), Matthias Weischer (Leipzig)
