For most people, it's not easy to deal with things that don't work out. For creators it may be even harder, because what they create is often very personal expression. When things fail or are criticized, it can sometimes feel like a personal attack, from someone else or from yourself. And yet failure is part of every creative process: failure is allowed and you learn from failure. Yet it remains difficult to deal with failure. So the question this time is: How do you deal with failure?
1.
View failure as a learning experience. Instead of seeing failure as something bad, view it as an opportunity to grow. What can you learn from it?
2.
Change your mindset. People with a so-called growth mindset believe that skills and intelligence can grow with effort. They see failure not as the end, but as a step forward.
3.
Embrace emotions, but don't linger. It is perfectly normal to be disappointed or frustrated. Give yourself time to process those feelings, but don't get stuck in negativity.
4.
Be kind to yourself. Everyone fails, even the most successful people. Treat yourself as you would treat a friend who has had a setback.
5.
Reflect without judging yourself. Ask yourself, What went wrong? What could I have done differently? What will I take with me into the future?
6.
Put things in perspective and keep perspective. One failure does not define who you are. Think of previous times when you thought something was a disaster, but later turned out to be not so bad.
7.
Practice resilience. The more often you challenge yourself and dare to take risks, the better you will become at dealing with setbacks.
8.
Surround yourself with the right people. Seek support from friends, family or mentors who will help you see failure in perspective.
9.
Celebrate progress, not just success. Focus not only on the end result, but also appreciate the steps you have taken
10.
Remind yourself that failure is part of success. Most successful people have failed countless times before achieving their goals.
