Culture and sustainability

The Boekman Foundation devoted its summer issue Boekman 127 to culture and sustainability: how can the cultural sector contribute to a greener world? "The authors in this issue of Boekman show that culture is ideally suited to make people more aware of sustainability. By making cultural buildings and organizations as environmentally friendly as possible, but also by inspiring the public through art."

The summer issue contains contributions from, among others, Jan Willem van Bokhorst, Bjorn Schrijen, Natasja Admiraal, Ilse Koreman and Jacqueline Cramer. The articles 'How culture can save the world' by Bjorn Schrijen and 'Creation and design can help solve social issues' by Kim van der Meulen from the Boekman 127 can be downloaded free from the Boekman Foundation website.

The also free downloadable Boekman Extra #24: Towards a sustainable cultural sector briefly describes some forty publications, websites and organisations that can help the cultural sector take the next step towards sustainability. It is a selection from the Boekman Foundation's knowledge database, supplemented with sources that have played a role in the Boekman Foundation's research into sustainability in the sector over the past two years. The emphasis is on sources with a practical approach and sources that deal specifically with sustainability in the cultural sector.
