Main conclusions for the future of art in public space.

Under the title Main conclusions for the future of art in public space Esther Didden, project leader of the now completed jubilee project of BK Information, on Friday morning, July 2, the BK lecture. Unfortunately, the annual BK lecture could not take place earlier this year due to the postponement of Art Rotterdam as a result of corruption measures. 

This time the lecture will take place online and will be interactive. 

Tickets purchased early this year for the February lecture will of course remain valid on 2 July. The first 80 people to register for the BK lecture will receive an admission ticket for Art Rotterdam 2021, which takes place from 1 to 4 July. 

With a ticket, you can watch the lecture back for a week.

Art in public space: 100 key works 

The BK Informatie Foundation celebrated its fortieth anniversary in 2020. First of all, the 100 Key Works post-war works of art in public spaces. These can be found on sleutelwerken.nl. Afterwards we started the campaign with the hashtag #hat'swhat which we particularly wanted to find out how works of art in public space impact on society. have 'landed'. To conclude the jubilee, on 20 January 2021 the symposium Art in the public space place, the Special Edition that we made about it you found enclosed with BK-information #2 of this year. 

During the BK-lecture on 2 July Esther Didden will discuss the most important conclusions of the symposium and questions raised by the selection of the key works and the #wattsthat here campaign have proved relevant: Where do the responsibilities lie in public space? What are the Which authorities fill in this space, which ones are in charge of the user and what does this mean for the works of art that can be found in it? And what if the works of art are monuments, what forces then play a role? How do you realise in a modern day a monument? These questions are also interesting in combination with the current demand for a more democratic form of commissioning.

Costs

For the lecture and the visit to Art Rotterdam you pay as subscriber 10 per person. A subscriber can purchase a maximum of two tickets. The first 80 subscribers will receive admission to Art Rotterdam. Non-subscribers pay 15 for the lecture, entrance to the fair is not possible with this ticket. 

Esther Didden 

Esther studied Monumental Design at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and Philosophy at Erasmus University Rotterdam. Recently she completed the program Leadership in Culture Business at the University of Utrecht. Since a few years she combines her love for the arts with (public) philosophy. Both worlds go well together. unite; the arts have the same origin as philosophical ideas and share their way of asking questions. In addition She holds various committee positions, including treasurer of the national board of the Month of Philosophy and chairwoman of Stichting Verweven.

Art Rotterdam 

The twenty-second edition of art fair Art Rotterdam will take place from Thursday 1 to Sunday 4 July 2021. The venue is the Van Nelle Factory in Rotterdam. For four days the With its focus on young art, this fair is the meeting place for art lovers and professionals from the Netherlands and abroad. During Art Rotterdam over 100 galleries show the work of up-and-coming and established talent. Visitors and participants are assured of a safe and attractive environment in line with government regulations and measures. Tickets for Art Rotterdam 2021 are only available online.
