It can also be different | 9. Paula Biemans and Klaas Kloosterhuis
"We were always partners in love and now partners in art."
This week Esther Didden is in Bierum at the home and workplace of Paula Biemans and Klaas Kloosterhuis. Paula and Klaas got to know each other in 1994, when they were both studying at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Arnhem (now ArtEZ). Paula graduated there as a drawing teacher and Klaas as a handicrafts teacher. After graduation, they looked for an affordable place to live and so they ended up in Bierum, a village above Groningen. Together they had three children. When the last child left home to go to college, it proved to be a turning point for them both. They started making art together, something they had never done before.
"Suddenly we were also colleagues. Sometimes that was very difficult, we really boxed with each other as well."
