"Moving to this studio greatly expanded my possibilities. It feels very free and I started thinking more freely as a result."
This week Esther Didden is at Soesterberg Air Base in Cecilia Rebergen's studio.
Her graduation from the Utrecht School of the Arts was followed by seven studios over seven years. The studios were temporarily available for various reasons. With each move, she was forced to throw away work. Not only that, having to move again and again was restless. It led to fleeting work. Then a very special offer came along: a hangar at the former American airbase in Soesterberg. The hangar is large and available for at least fifteen years. It changed her work. She can now make large work, including commissions for outdoor space. And throwing work away is no longer necessary.
"The area where my studio is is basically not for people. If, for example, the badger leaves here because of me, I have to leave, too."
