"I am very happy that I am an artist now, that I can create my work and share my values with the world."

This week Esther Didden is in Well at the home and workplace of Morena Bamberger. She grew up in a trailer park within the Sinti community from which she came. Going to college and being autonomous as a young Sinti woman was not appreciated. She was not allowed to go to rooms and certainly not in Maastricht, where she went to art school. From a young age, Morena has had to fight her artistry. But she has also been a trailblazer and inspiration for her family line and other young people. Morena has shown that as a young Sinti woman, you can achieve your deepest dreams. She struggled to break away from the Sinti environment, but that does not necessarily make her a feminist artist who wants to free herself. How does she break free from the projection of her background onto her work?

"I was kind of an alien in my own culture, but also as an artist outside my culture."
